UNLIKELY ANIMALS, Annie Hartnett. A charming, offbeat, and poignant novel — narrated by the dead residents of the town cemetery — about a young woman who returns home to care for her ailing father who is haunted by the ghost of one of the town’s bizarre historical founders. I loved this sweet and funny book, which is one of the best portraits of sickness and grief, and how humor and community can ease the pain of death, that I’ve read in years; it is a must-read for animal-lovers everywhere. “This is a big novel doing big things… the sort of book that will leave you feeling like Moses the dog, who leaps out of her car and looks around at a field he’d never been to before. ‘Another great place, Moses thought. Smells amazing,’” writes Josh English in The Rumpus. “This unapologetically genre-bending tribute to life, death and the beautiful weirdness found in both has potential to spark exceptional book club discussions,” writes Jaclyn Fulwood in Shelf Awareness. From the author of the acclaimed Rabbit Cake. Amazon, Bookshop, Libro.fm.

NOBODY BUT US, Laure Van Rensburg. A new couple with a large age difference take a getaway to a remote cabin…
