Each week, I’ll catalog the biggest and most exciting adult and YA fiction — and the occasional nonfiction — coming out that Tuesday.

THE NEW WILDERNESS, Diane Cook. A dystopian novel in which, to save her ailing daughter, a woman moves to a region called The New Wilderness, where humans are tested to see if they can coexist harmoniously with nature. Longlisted for the Booker. Bookshop.

ZO, Xander Miller. Two young Haitians fall in love, but a massive earthquake threatens to destroy everything they think they know. Bookshop.

LAST CALL ON DECATUR STREET, Iris Martin Cohen. A college dropout returns to her hometown of New Orleans, coming to terms with her past over the course of one particularly raucous night. Bookshop.

WE ARE ALL THE SAME IN THE DARK, Julia Heaberlin. A murder suspect coping with the murder of his sister finds a lost girl in a field, while a cop with ties to the victim tries to solve the mystery of what happened to her once and for all. In a starred review, Publisher’s Weekly calls it “exceptional.” Bookshop.

A TRAVELER AT THE GATES OF WISDOM, John Boyne. A novel about a family over the course of thousands of years, by the author of The Heart’s Invisible Furies. Bookshop.

THE BOY IN THE FIELD, Margot Livesey. After their discovery saves the life of a dying boy found in a field, three siblings find themselves irrevocably changed. Aggregated critical reviews, Bookshop.

THE TYRANT BARU CORMORANT, Seth Dickinson. The concluding novel in the epic, sharp, anti-colonialist fantasy series about an accountant who aims to destroy her country by working from the inside. I love this series, and am so excited for this final chapter. Bookshop.
